Gutta, daughter of the late Moses of Oppenheim: Treviso, 1421

Subject

Gutta, daughter of the late Moses of Oppenheim

Description

Gutta, the widow of Maier, was a member of the Ashkenazic community of northern Italy. She was also a moneylender. Gutta had her will written when she was very old ("ex antiquitate gravata"). She left money to her two living sons, and to her grandchildren. She added a codicil a few days after the initial will was recorded. Veronese (see below, sources) highlights that the will was made in the presence of a number of Ashkenazic women.
